Tools of Titans Pdf

ISBN: B01HSMRWNU
Title: Tools of Titans Pdf The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers
The latest groundbreaking tome from Tim Ferriss, the #1 New York Times best-selling author of The 4-Hour Workweek.

From the author:

“For the last two years, I’ve interviewed more than 200 world-class performers for my podcast, The Tim Ferriss Show. The guests range from super celebs (Jamie Foxx, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc.) and athletes (icons of powerlifting, gymnastics, surfing, etc.) to legendary Special Operations commanders and black-market biochemists. For most of my guests, it’s the first time they’ve agreed to a two-to-three-hour interview. This unusual depth has helped make The Tim Ferriss Show the first business/interview podcast to pass 100 million downloads.

“This book contains the distilled tools, tactics, and ‘inside baseball’ you won’t find anywhere else. It also includes new tips from past guests, and life lessons from new ‘guests’ you haven’t met.

“What makes the show different is a relentless focus on actionable details. This is reflected in the questions. For example: What do these people do in the first sixty minutes of each morning? What do their workout routines look like, and why? What books have they gifted most to other people? What are the biggest wastes of time for novices in their field? What supplements do they take on a daily basis?

“I don’t view myself as an interviewer. I view myself as an experimenter. If I can’t test something and replicate results in the messy reality of everyday life, I’m not interested.

“Everything within these pages has been vetted, explored, and applied to my own life in some fashion. I’ve used dozens of the tactics and philosophies in high-stakes negotiations, high-risk environments, or large business dealings. The lessons have made me millions of dollars and saved me years of wasted effort and frustration.

“I created this book, my ultimate notebook of high-leverage tools, for myself. It’s changed my life, and I hope the same for you.”

Thanks Tim This is the first Tim Ferriss book I've actually read, after listening to Tim Tim Talk Talk for about a year now. As I sit down to write this, I'm finding it quite difficult to express exactly how I feel about the book, and what Ferriss ultimately represents. I found his podcast at a very difficult time in my life, where I was searching for a way out of a seemingly hopeless situation. At about 3 am, I stumbled upon Tim Ferriss. Since then, my life has changed dramatically. The content in this book is incredibly helpful not only in terms of the actual information, but what the information represents. It proves to the reader that those Billionaires, Icons, and legends are just people. They all had difficult child hoods, periods of massive failure, and times where they felt hopeless. They made it from there to the top simply by doing what works, and ignoring what doesn't, day after day after day. If I could, I'd distribute this book to every person on earth. Not because each person needs a chillipad, or exogenous ketones or whatever, but because each person needs to realize that the future is malleable, and daily habits are the paint by which we create our destiny. There are no secrets, or hacks, or tactics reserved for the special elite. It's all right here, in this book. Its simply a matter of applying what will help you, ignoring what won't, and taking advice only from those who have a life you'd like to emulate. So thanks Tim. Please continue with what you're doing. I have a suspicion that in twenty years, there will be a lot of people who will cite this book and podcast as the thing that turned their life around. Be happy about that. It all really does make a difference.super hopeful, but left disapointed The idea was a good one. Tim has spent thousands of hours interviewing top performers in every category and industry. So sit down and distill the collective wisdom into a book -- seems like a great idea, right? But all in all, it's too superficial -- it's divided up by person, not by topic, so you get 2 pages of distilled wisdom from each performer, but without the full context, the advice loses almost all its power.I imagine this was AMAZING for Tim to write -- he said he took a month off and spent all his time going through all his interview notes and condensing the most important parts from each interview. But Tim met the people, knows their accomplishments, and spent time talking to them. How much of that power is supposed to convey in 2 pages if I don't even know who the expert is?For Tim, this book is probably the ultimate summary and reminder of all the powerful stuff his interviewees have told him. But for readers, it's little more than a disparate mishmash of "I did this for X result and that for Y result" over and over again. Some good tidbits, but mostly an homage to workaholism and perfectionism and other afflictions I like the D'Agostino profile, the chapters on psychedelics, few other profiles and tidbits, and some of Ferriss' sleep hacks and routines. But it's largely an homage to workaholism, perfectionism, hyper-ambition, aggressive careerism, wealth chasing, and incessant striving. Lot of n=1 advice being dispensed as universal truth, just because the dispenser is "successful". And not sure you want advice from people who stay up till 1am looking at a computer, or go to the gym late at night, or compulsively start companies, or make exercise into some monstrous project. The breadth of info is a feature of the book, but also a detriment... it's info overload and exhausting even thinking about trying to assimilate so much. What happened to living simply? It also seems to be a major vanity project for Ferriss. It is enjoyable to browse though, and i like the lists at the end, and the book feels good in the hand and is an appealing object.

Title: Mythos Pdf

Here are the thrills, grandeur, and unabashed fun of the Greek myths, stylishly retold by Stephen Fry. The legendary writer, actor, and comedian breathes life into ancient tales, from Pandora's box to Prometheus's fire, and transforms the adventures of Zeus and the Olympians into emotionally resonant and deeply funny stories, without losing any of their original wonder. Learned notes from the author offer rich cultural context. This volume is a doorway into a captivating world.

Stephen Fry, wonderful story teller I am a huge fan of everything Stephen Fry does. He is a treasure to our time. He is open-hearted, kind, knowledgeable and a great human being. Sitting down with this book is like having tea with Stephen. What a wonderful experience. The subject of the book is Greek Mythology. You would think that Ovid and other authors have beat that old horse to death. But, Stephen breathes new life into these stories. His prodigious store of knowledge finds its way into every story. You marvel and laugh and are even shocked by the stories. Very worth while book. Please read it.There is one negative I suppose. It is not a novel. There is no real plot to keep you enthralled. Instead, I find that I have not sat down with Stephen for a while. So that brings me back to the book. What story do you have for me today?Love Stephen Fry's vision of Greek Mythology. I love everything Stephen Fry.Greek Mythology Retold I received this as an eARC to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for giving me access. This was a wonderful retelling of the Greek Mythology that we have come to know. Stephen Fry writes it in a way that we can understand with a modern twist on language and dialog of characters. You may have seen this book around before, but this is a collectible edition. Included are full color photos to further your reading experience. If you already read Mythos and loved it, I highly recommend adding this edition to your collection.

Title: Roaring Back Pdf The Fall and Rise of Tiger Woods
Author: Curt Sampson
Published Date: 2019-10-29
Page: 304

Advance Praise for Roaring Back "As I said live on the air, Tiger Woods’ victory at the 2019 Masters marked the completion of one of the great comebacks in any sport, all-time. In Roaring Back, Curt Sampson admirably details all the highs and lows that led him to that historic moment. Like Tiger’s performance in Augusta, it’s a book for the ages.” ― Jim Nantz, CBS Sports "If it were possible to clone Ring Lardner and Sinclair Lewis―with a dusting of the late Dan Jenkins for seasoning―you might come close to creating Curt Sampson. In Roaring Back, Sampson artfully charts the pain-filled odysseys of the game's greatest Comeback Kids from Ben Hogan to Tiger Woods, whose wrenchingly public fall from grace sets up a strikingly human tale of rebirth that illustrates why we Americans are born suckers a good resurrection story. This unflinching chronicle puts Tigermania in much-needed, clear-eyed perspective. It's a helluva fun read, as well." ― James Dodson, bestselling author of Final Rounds and American Triumvirate "I have known Tiger Woods since he was sixteen years old and borne witness, first hand, to his dramatic rise, fall, and redemption. Many writers have tried and failed to capture Tiger's mercurial essence over the years, but Curt Sampson does so here magnificently. Roaring Back is the literary equivalent of a championship putt." ― Peter Jacobsen, Golf Channel/NBC Sports "More words have been written trying to capture the heart and mind of the enigmatic Tiger Woods than any other golfer in history, including members of a legendary foursome: Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. Curt Sampson has been aggressively chasing Tiger for more than twenty years. In Roaring Back, he at last lays bare, through wry, observant prose, the truth of the man whose singular greatness inspired an entire generation of golfers and whose extraordinary comeback inspired the world." ― Don Van Natta, Jr., bestselling author of First Off The Tee and Wonder Girl Praise for Curt Sampson "Jack Nicklaus may own six green jackets, but no one has captured the Masters like [Curt] Sampson." ― The (Baton Rouge) Advocate “The old sports writing axiom says, ‘The smaller the ball, the better the writing,’ and Sampson certainly has chops commensurate with golf's small sphere…. Sampson's connections in the sport are on par with his authorial flair….Sampson is best at capturing the details the smell of pine straw on a course or the flush on the back of a pressured participant's neck as only a golf aficionado and ace writer can.” ― Publishers Weekly "This crisp account [and] vivid retelling of what happened in Augusta in April 2019...will have fans reliving the improbable moments of that inspirational final round....An essential bit of golf history and a fine warm-up for Woods' forthcoming memoir."―Booklist Curt Sampson is one of America’s leading golf writers and the author of eighteen books, among them New York Times bestsellers The Masters and Hogan. Some subjects of his include Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Ben Crenshaw, and Lee Trevino, golf titans in Sampson’s orbit since his own golf pro days. He has written for Sports Illustrated, Golf Digest, Golf magazine, and Golf world, among other notable publications. Come April he’s with the crowds in Augusta, Georgia, but otherwise resides in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Texas.

The incredible true story of Tiger Woods’s dramatic return to glory at the 2019 Masters following his humbling and very public personal, physical, and professional setbacks.

One publicly imploded marriage. Two car accidents. Eight surgeries. And now, a miracle of hard work and storied talent: five Masters wins. Once hailed as “the greatest closer in history” before he fell further than any beloved athlete in America’s memory, Tiger swung at the world’s wildest expectations and beat the skeptics with his April 2019 championship. Roaring Back traces his road to Augusta and the improbable, phenomenal comeback of one of the greatest golfers in history.

New York Times bestselling author Curt Sampson details the highs and lows of Woods’s career in three gripping acts. From his startling loss at the 2009 PGA Championship, detrimental obsession with his swing, and that infamous night involving an ex-wife and a nine-iron…to adoring fans and lucrative sponsors turning their backs, exclusive interviews with past instructors and PGA tour peers, and an arrest complete with a toxicology report…finally to Tiger coming from behind for his fifth green jacket as the crowd rumbled in Georgia, and how his comeback rivals those of the most dramatic in his sport.

Sampson also places Woods’s defeats and triumphs in the context of historic comebacks by other notable golfers like Ben Hogan, Skip Alexander, Aaron Silton, and Charlie Beljan, finding the forty-three-year-old alone on the green for his trajectory of victory against all odds. As this enthralling book reveals, Tiger never doubted the perseverance of the winner in the mirror.

Funny, fast read Gotta disagree with the first review... I found the author’s insights into the world of golf beyond Tiger made the book a much more interesting read than a straight recitation of the facts would have been. And, of course, there was a LOT about TW. Besides that, the book was clever and funny—reminded me of reading Dan Jenkins.Struggles to stay on point. When the author is actually discussing Tiger, it is a brilliantly written book with plenty of behind the scenes information. But, so much of this books is spent talking about other people’s great comebacks. And while yes some of them are good stories, I bought a book about Tiger. I don’t want to read filler pages about Ben Hogan and other people who I’ve never even heard of. I want the Tiger story, and that’s it. But as I said the Tiger material is great

Full of her trademark mix of unforgettable characters and heart-breaking secrets, The Butterfly Room is a spellbinding, multi-generational story from Sunday Times bestseller Lucinda Riley.

Posy Montague is approaching her seventieth birthday. Still living in her beautiful family home, Admiral House, set in the glorious Suffolk countryside where she spent her own idyllic childhood catching butterflies with her beloved father, and raised her own children, Posy knows she must make an agonizing decision. Despite the memories the house holds, and the exquisite garden she has spent twenty-five years creating, the house is crumbling around her, and Posy knows the time has come to sell it.

Then a face appears from the past – Freddie, her first love, who abandoned her and left her heartbroken fifty years ago. Already struggling to cope with her son Sam’s inept business dealings, and the sudden reappearance of her younger son Nick after ten years in Australia, Posy is reluctant to trust in Freddie’s renewed affection. And unbeknown to Posy, Freddie – and Admiral House – have a devastating secret to reveal . . .

Yet another great read by Lucinda Riley This is a slightly lighter read than her usual books. In saying that I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and it still kept me really interested right to the last page.Enjoyed every moment!!! The life of a young girl of privilege through her life and that of family until she is elderly. Beautifully written by the most prolific authors of our time, Lucinda Riley. She has written 28 books and each is captivating. If you enjoy Kate Morton, Penny Vincenzi , Kristen Hannah you will be overwhelmed by Lucinda Riley!Great book Another great read. Lucinda's books never disappoint. Just read this as a fill in waiting on The Sun Sister to be launched. Pleased I did - her books never fail to get me gripped into the story.

The Beach Download

ISBN: B00AEDDSTI
Title: The Beach Pdf
The irresistible novel that was adapted into a major motion picture starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

The Khao San Road, Bangkok -- first stop for the hordes of rootless young Westerners traveling in Southeast Asia. On Richard's first night there, in a low-budget guest house, a fellow traveler slashes his wrists, bequeathing to Richard a meticulously drawn map to "the Beach."

The Beach, as Richard has come to learn, is the subject of a legend among young travelers in Asia: a lagoon hidden from the sea, with white sand and coral gardens, freshwater falls surrounded by jungle, plants untouched for a thousand years. There, it is rumored, a carefully selected international few have settled in a communal Eden.

Haunted by the figure of Mr. Duck -- the name by which the Thai police have identified the dead man -- and his own obsession with Vietnam movies, Richard sets off with a young French couple to an island hidden away in an archipelago forbidden to tourists. They discover the Beach, and it is as beautiful and idyllic as it is reputed to be. Yet over time it becomes clear that Beach culture, as Richard calls it, has troubling, even deadly, undercurrents.

Spellbinding and hallucinogenic, The Beach by Alex Garland -- both a national bestseller and his debut -- is a highly accomplished and suspenseful novel that fixates on a generation in their twenties, who, burdened with the legacy of the preceding generation and saturated by popular culture, long for an unruined landscape, but find it difficult to experience the world firsthand.

Vastly Superior to Film Adaptation With Alex Garland gaining popularity in cinema (Ex Machina, Annihilation, etc.) I was curious to check out some of his earlier writing. It had been some time since I had seen the film adaption by Danny Boyle, which was probably a good thing. The movie is OK, but the novel is fantastic. There are two things that jump out at me with the novel (beyond specific events and plot points); 1. The examination of Traveler vs Tourist, and 2. They dynamics of leadership and social order. The first really sets up the story by breaking down any preconceived ideologies these characters may have. The traveler is fiercely independent, if not mildly pretentious. They carry no sense of nationalism or social bonds. But they are also in denial. About their dependency on many things they ridicule and fact they are still just tourists.Which leads to the second theme...how do a group of "travelers" redefine a social hierarchy and leadership model in an isolated environment. Who fishes? Who farms? Who builds shelter? Who LEADS? More importantly what happens when those structures start to break down? Hunger, sickness, tribal warfare.....chaos is lurking...even in Paradise.Hard to put down So I did quite a bit of traveling, sleeping on beaches, hostels, worked on Kibbutz, all over the world in my 20s and this book gives you that same rush. Makes you long to meet unusual people, grow intensely close for short spurts of time while you share rare and sometimes dangerous experiences. Characters here were so fleshed out as were the locations. Insights into how people think in unexpected situations were extremely believable. Didn't want to let go of some of the characters at the end and wished there was a sequel. But just like traveling you have to say goodbye with that pang of yearning and later think back to all the people you met with wonder. Plus, reading this I got to experience extreme traveling without having to literally endure some of the gore these travelers encounter. But I won't give it away. Have a great trip!

Destiny Grimoire Anthology, Vol I Free Pdf

ISBN: 1945683449
Title: Destiny Grimoire Anthology, Vol I Pdf
Author: Bungie
Published Date: 2018-02-15
Bungie presents the Destiny Grimoire Anthology, a must-have collectible lore compendium designed and assembled for Destiny’s devoted and enlightened scholars and lore lovers, as well as fans of fantasy and science fiction storytelling.

Includes an in-game emblem code!

Interesting Destiny Grimoire in short book form. Christmas gift, from my wife. I unsealed the book, read till chapter 2, decided to enter the emblem code and it does not work. Seems like someone could easily guess it. Bungie hasn't responded and I don't even know how to contact Amazon. Just frustrating, when the book was sealed. I was really enjoying the book, just thought I'd take a break (enter my code) and it ruined my night.Only buy this if you are a hardcore lore enthusiast. Bungie wasted a wonderful opportunity. This has all the Lore from Destiny 1, but has maybe 4 pages of art. They could have made this great by using existing art to illustrate the lore. But they took the easy way out and gave us this very grim grimoire.Captures the stories of the Grimoire beautifully. A beautiful physical realization of some of my favorite pieces of Sci-Fi writing. Bound and embroidered with high quality materials and filled with great artwork it's worth every penny and then some! Only wish there could have been even more artwork. It was so good and I would have loved to see the artist's interpretations of even more characters, places, and events throughout the lore.If you're a fan of Destiny and it's lore you'll be a fan of this book.

Oryx and Crake (MaddAddam Trilogy) Free Pdf

ISBN: 0385721676
Title: Oryx and Crake (MaddAddam Trilogy) Pdf
Author: Margaret Atwood
Published Date: 2004
Page: 376

“Towering and intrepid. . . . Atwood does Orwell one better.” —The New Yorker“Atwood has long since established herself as one of the best writers in English today, but Oryx and Crake may well be her best work yet. . . . Brilliant, provocative, sumptuous and downright terrifying.” —The Baltimore Sun“Her shuddering post-apocalyptic vision of the world . . . summons up echoes of George Orwell, Anthony Burgess and Aldous Huxley. . . . Oryx and Crake [is] in the forefront of visionary fiction.” —The Seattle Times“A book too marvelous to miss.” —The San Diego Union-Tribune“Majestic. . . . Keeps us on the edges of our seats.” —The Washington Post“A compelling futuristic vision. . . . Oryx and Crake carries itself with a refreshing lightness. . . . Its shrewd pacing neatly balances action and exposition. . . . What gives the book a deeper resonance is its humanity.” –Newsday“[A] stunning new novel–possibly her best since The Handmaid’s Tale.” –Time Out New York“A delightful amalgam for the sophisticated reader: her perfectly placed prose, poetic language and tongue-in-cheek tone are ubiquitous throughout, as if an enchanted nanny is telling one a dark bedtime story of alienation and ruin while lovingly stroking one’s head.” –Ms.“Truly remarkable. . . . As fun as it is dark. . . . A feast of realism, science fiction, satire, elegy and then some. . . . Atwood has concocted here an all-too-possible vision. . . . [She is] a master.” –The News & Observer (Raleigh, North Carolina)“A roll of dry, black, parodic laughter. . . . One of the year’s most surprising novels.” –The Economist“Sublime. . . . Good, solid, Swiftian science fiction from a . . . literary artist par excellence.” –The Denver Post“Dances with energy and sophisticated gallows humor. . . . [Atwood’s] wry wit makes dystopia fun.” –People“A crackling read. . . . Atwood is one of the most impressively ambitious writers of our time.” –The Guardian“Gorgeously written, full of eyeball-smacking images and riveting social and scientific commentary. . . . A cunning and engrossing book by one of the great masters of the form.” –The Buffalo News“A powerful vision. . . . Very readable.” –The New York Times Book Review“Brilliant, impossible to put down. . . . Atwood . . . is at once commanding and enchanting. Piercingly intelligent and piquantly witty, highly imaginative and unfailingly compassionate, she is a spoonful-of-sugar storyteller, concealing the strong and necessary medicine of her stinging social commentary within the balm of dazzlingly complicated and compelling characters and intricate and involving predicaments.” –The Atlanta Journal-Constitution“Original and chilling. . . . Powerful, inventive, playful and difficult to resist.” –Pittsburgh Post-Gazette“Brilliantly constructed. . . . Jimmy and Crake grip like characters out of Greek tragedy. . . . Atwood herself is one of our finest linguistic engineers. Her carefully calibrated sentences are formulated to hook and paralyse the reader.” –The Daily Telegraph“Atwood does not disappoint.” –The Dallas Morning News“Gripping. . . . Bursts with invention and mordant wit, none of which slows down its headlong pace. . . . Atwood is in sleek form. . . . [Her] prescience is unsettling.” –St. Petersburg Times“Biting, black humor and absorbing storytelling. . . . Atwood entices.” –USA Today“Compelling. . . . Packed with fascinating ideas. . . . Her most accessible book in years, a gripping, unadorned story.” –The Onion“This superlatively gripping and remarkably imagined book joins The Handmaid’s Tale in the distinguished company of novels (The Time Machine, Brave New World and 1984) that look ahead to warn us about the results of human shortsightedness.” –The Times (London)“Absorbing. . . . Atwood ahs not lost her touch for following the darker paths of speculative fiction–she easily creates a believable, contained future world.” –Seattle Weekly“Engrossing. . . . A novel of ideas, narrated with an almost scientific dispassion and a caustic, distanced humor. The prose is fast and clean.” –Rocky Mountain News“Riveting and thought-provoking. . . . Keen and cutting. . . . [Atwood] has grown into one of the most consistently imaginative and masterful fiction writers writing in English today.” –Richmond Times-Dispatch With the same stunning blend of prophecy and social satire she brought to her classic The Handmaid’s Tale, Margaret Atwood gives us a keenly prescient novel about the future of humanity—and its present. Humanity here equals Snowman, and in Snowman’s recollections Atwood re-creates a time much like our own, when a boy named Jimmy loved an elusive, damaged girl called Oryx and a sardonic genius called Crake. But now Snowman is alone, and as we learn why we also learn about a world that could become ours one day.

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Handmaid's Tale

Oryx and Crake
is at once an unforgettable love story and a compelling vision of the future. Snowman, known as Jimmy before mankind was overwhelmed by a plague, is struggling to survive in a world where he may be the last human, and mourning the loss of his best friend, Crake, and the beautiful and elusive Oryx whom they both loved. In search of answers, Snowman embarks on a journey–with the help of the green-eyed Children of Crake–through the lush wilderness that was so recently a great city, until powerful corporations took mankind on an uncontrolled genetic engineering ride. Margaret Atwood projects us into a near future that is both all too familiar and beyond our imagining.

Thought Provoking and Extremely Creepy This novel, the first in Margaret Atwood's dystopian trilogy, is a fascinating, dark and thought-provoking ride. Perhaps overshadowing the story itself, Atwood's world forces the reader into tremendous moral reflection. We are made to question the nature of exploitation, the meaning of social consent and whether effort for the greater good can ever be divorced from emotional self-interest. In terms of bigger picture message, if not story, the first book reminds me of Hugh Howey's mesmerizing Wool series. The story centers around Jimmy, also called Snowman, assumed to be the lone survivor of a plague that destroyed humanity. His companions are Crakers: a society of unworldly humanoid experiments designed to eliminate the perceived flaws of normal homo sapiens. The Crakers see Snowman as a relic and link to the "before" times as well as their source of knowledge about their creator, Crake. Jimmy has given the Crakers an origin story, that while false, is something he feels they can mentally grasp. The enigmatic Oryx is the novel's most interesting character primarily because she is so difficult to understand. She is the love interest to both Jimmy (Snowman) and Crake.Atwood, an avid environmentalist, creates a believable world where climate change accelerates with cataclysmic consequences; changing the nature of agriculture and livestock production, flooding major cities and changing the weather. To compensate, society evolves into a two-tiered structure where scientists and thought-workers segregate themselves into highly secure compounds while the remainder of humanity fend for themselves in decaying, crime-ridden "plebelands". The scientists, working for global corporations, create increasingly bizarre animal and plant hybrids for food in addition to rejuvenation products that increase lifespan and beauty for those who can afford them. The novel is, overall, an excellent one and well worth the read. The characters are well-developed and fascinating though almost uniformly difficult to like. Many elements of the story are gut-wrenchingly plausible and Atwood masterfully manages to ruin your sleep at night. One leaves the tale of Oryx and Crake with little hope for the future of humanity. Too many genies, it seems, are already out of the bottle. It's possible to nitpick some of the story's futuristic elements. For example, published in 2003, it's difficult to see how Atwood couldn't see the coming of smart phones and electronic documents. Jimmy, searching for a job, is somehow snail mailing his paper resume to prospective employers. And another nit, as a former marketer, I found nearly all of the product names things that would have been mercilessly ridiculed at any ad meeting. Atwood seems in love with cheesy rhymes and putting "oo" in everything (Anooyoo, Soy Oh-Boy, pigoons).Still, world-building is hard, and you have to cut the author some slack. After all, we let Suzanne Collins get away with never explaining how and why the Hunger Games world is like that. Whether or not you will like Oryx and Crake really depends on your feelings about apocalyptic fiction. I tend to rate this type of fiction on whether the author made me think and creeped me out. This novel will definitely do both of those things.Masterful I read a great deal of science fiction and most of it is,to be charitable, derivative trash - particularly the self-published military scifi that is so abundant on Amazon. But every so often a masterpiece appears and one of them is the MaddAddam trilogy. I had been aware of these books for some time, but somehow never got around to reading them. Deeply tired of thousands of missiles and mechanized body armor and planet busters, I finally gave these a try and can kick myself for waiting so long. This is literature, not pulp. Atwood manages a number of individual voices, including her own, that come together to create a fully-realized world. Dystopian, yes but so far above the usual zombies and machine uprisings as Hamlet is to "See Spot Run" The multitude of voices and points-of-views are never more than masterful, the language is lyrical and when need be beautiful, and the creatures that inhabit this world are inventive and vividly described. I can think of only one other series that attains the rank of literature, Octavia Butler's "Lilith" series. MaddAddam is art of the highest order, not just a genre piece. Be prepared to give it some time and you, too, will enter into her world.
