Dweck, Ph.D., is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading researchers in the fields of personality, social psychology, and developmental psychology. She is the Lewis and Virginia Eaton Professor of Psychology at Stanford University, has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, and has won nine lifetime achievement awards for her research. This updated edition of the book that has changed millions of lives with its insights into the growth mindset can help you start the new year off right.

After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D., discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she shows how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. People with a fixed mindset—those who believe that abilities are fixed—are less likely to flourish than those with a growth mindset—those who believe that abilities can be developed. Mindset reveals how great parents, teachers, managers, and athletes can put this idea to use to foster outstanding accomplishment.

In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. She introduces a phenomenon she calls false growth mindset and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mindset. She also expands the mindset concept beyond the individual, applying it to the cultures of groups and organizations. With the right mindset, you can motivate those you lead, teach, and love—to transform their lives and your own.

Praise for Mindset

Rather terrible This was the book that completely turned me off from the psychology/self-help genre. It lacked depth and felt like an endless repetition of comparing situations in which one person had the "proper" mindset and another had the "wrong" mindset, followed by a few condescending, didactic paragraphs on why the proper mindset was necessary in leading the former to success; it's apparently the key to everything. Very little was mentioned on *how* to actually achieve this mindset. On the bright side, I've now become more tolerant towards other not-so-great books. It'd be pretty hard to get any worse than this one.Concept is brilliant, excecution not so much I was looking forward to reading this for months, and had a mixed reaction when I finally did. The book is valuable for its conceit: that there are two types of mind-sets; the growth and the fixed. The growth is the one to have if you want to thrive in life, career, relationships, etc. People are formed early on into one mindset or the other, but can change to the valuable growth mindset if they put themselves to the task. This is incredibly important and the book's value stands on this assertion alone. All of this can be summed up in a single chapter, or a scientific paper tweaked for the lay reader. The problem is that this argument is stretched thin to become a "book" and Dweck's writing doesn't maintain enough interest on its own and is often clunky, sentimental and obvious at times. I'm sure this happens a lot when a notable scientist, psychologist, etc is given a book deal and needs to expand it to justify a full-length book when something shorter would suffice to most readers (exceptions are brilliant writers like Daniel Kahneman and Daniel Gilbert, etc). So Mindset is a mixed bag. The real gift here is the conceit. Read it because it has value. It's an informational book, but not a great book.Interesting theory, yet lacking depth I first came across the author in a TED video. Her talk about how "not yet" generates far more power than "fail" was interesting and I decided to buy her book to further read into her studies. The book in general is an interesting piece of work. I like the way she describes the "growth mindset". However, most of the book seems to focus on discussing the difference between "fixed mindset" and "growth mindset" applied to different fields. So it does get very predictable and tedious. There is far not enough discussion about how to better develop the "growth mindset". It is like the author uses the entire book to emphasize how important "growth mindset" is but doesn't really offer much help. In particular, I don't like how she attributes every corporate failure to "fixed mindset". I think it is way too generalizing and over-simplifying.

good math book We just started to use this math book today, and I can tell that we are going to use it very often. It's light weight but the quality is good. It contents very good questions for each topic. This is a book really meet our expectation.Excellent book that will actually help your middle schooler succeed in Math! I highly recommend this book! I love using this book as part of our homeschooling curriculum. It has made a huge difference, and I am so glad I found it! It reduces the stress in our household with regards to math homework. The book does a great job explaining and breaking down each and every subject you may see in middle school math. It's a great supplemental material for students who may need a little extra help. Wish I had this when I was in junior high!Enough to make your kid into a perfect mathematician This book packs tremendous amount of math. Yes, it should easily cover several grades. It contains no fluff: they give you a problem, then the solution/explanation. The format seems OK ... I would have preferred a larger text and fewer problems per page. Before giving it to my kid, I looked at several problems (and their solutions). It works. Have you kid do a dozen a day, and you got the next Nobel laureate in math or physics! Absolutely worth every dollar. There is so much overpriced junk sold nowadays - this is NOT! I am a fan of this publisher. Will be looking into other books by them, hopefully covering the whole range of subjects and grades. Thank you!

Queen of Scots Pdf

ISBN: B00L0M73TI
Title: Queen of Scots Pdf The True Life of Mary Stuart
This Whitbread Award–winning biography and basis for the film Mary Queen of Scots starring Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie “reads like Shakespearean drama” (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution).

“A triumph . . . A masterpiece full of fire and tragedy.” —Amanda Foreman, author of Georgiana

In the first full-scale biography of Mary Stuart in more than thirty years, John Guy creates an intimate and absorbing portrait of one of history’s greatest women, depicting her world and her place in the sweep of history with stunning immediacy. Bringing together all surviving documents and uncovering a trove of new sources for the first time, Guy dispels the popular image of Mary Queen of Scots as a romantic leading lady—achieving her ends through feminine wiles—and establishes her as the intellectual and political equal of Elizabeth I.

Through Guy’s pioneering research and superbly readable prose, we come to see Mary as a skillful diplomat, maneuvering ingeniously among a dizzying array of factions that sought to control or dethrone her. Queen of Scots is an enthralling, myth-shattering look at a complex woman and ruler and her time.

“The definitive biography . . . Gripping . . . A pure pleasure to read.” —The Washington Post Book World

“Reads like Shakespearean drama, with all the delicious plotting and fresh writing to go with it.” —The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Highly recommended I became obsessed with Mary from watching Reign on Netflix.. had to have more and wanted the truth. This book is so well written and is just what I wanted.smart or stupid This is a highly readable, balanced and nuanced account of the life of a controversial figure. John Guy describes Mary Queen of Scots as he finds her: not among the countless pro- and anti-Mary propaganda tracts that have piled up over the centuries, but in the archives and primary sources, some of them not reviewed for many years and some not discovered until Guy came along. If you are willing to suspend preconceived ideas about Mary--saint or sinner, smart or stupid, martyr or manipulator--and allow the hard evidence to outweigh the speculation, you will be swept along by Guy's prose and enjoy a thoroughly fascinating story.Excellent biography Reread this in preparation for a trip to Scotland where we'll visit many places connected with Mary. She's one of the most tragic monarchs whose bios I've read. Although she didn't become the Queen of England, her son succeeded Elizabeth I and all subsequent British monarchs descended from her.The book is very well researched and detailed. Having the ability to visualize the events that occurred in various castles and palaces will make my travels more meaningful. RIP Marie

I Am Not Sick, I Don't Need Help! How to Help Someone with Mental Illness Accept Treatment. 10th Anniversary Edition. Pdf

ISBN: 0967718937
Title: I Am Not Sick, I Don't Need Help! How to Help Someone with Mental Illness Accept Treatment. 10th Anniversary Edition. Pdf
Author: Xavier Francisco Amador
Published Date: 2011-10-19
Page: 253

I strongly recommend this book for [both] families and therapists. - Aaron T. Beck, M.D., Professor of Psychiatry, University of Pennsylvania --University of PennsylvaniaI know of no other book even in the same league. - Gerry Spence, Author of the NY Times Best-Seller How to Argue and Win Every Time --Trial Lawyers CollegeThis is a wonderful book bringing together the personal experiences of a psychologist [who had a brother with schizophrenia]. Dr. Amador s research and clinical experience makes this book a rich source of information and practical advice. It is one of the salutary characteristics of our culture that people who experience pain convert that pain into something productive. People who are victimized by, stressed by, and dismayed by serious mental illness will find this book enormously helpful. It contains information about new research and concrete advice that will be of enormous help to both the families of the seriously mentally ill and to the mental health professionals who care for them. - HERBERT PARDES, M.D., President, New York-Presbyterian --The University Hospital of Columbia Dr. Amador is an internationally sought-after speaker, clinical psychologist, professor at Columbia University Teachers College in New York City, the Founder and Director of the LEAPTM Institute and author of eight books including the national best seller I m Not Sick, I Don t Need Help!TM Dr. Amador s expertise has made him a regular contributor to the Today Show and a featured guest on ABC Good Morning America, Prime Time Live, CBS This Morning, NBC Nightly News, 60 Minutes, CNN, Dateline, ABC s World News Tonight, Fox News, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and many others. Dr. Amador has been a consultant to numerous companies and government agencies including the National Institute of Health. His forensic cases include the Unabomber, PFC Lynndie England, Elizabeth Smart Kidnapping, and Zacarias Moussaoui trials. Dr. Amador has over 25 years experience working with adults, families, and couples. He lives in New York. Previously, Dr. Amador was a professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University, College of Physicians & Surgeons; on the Board of Directors of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI); Director of Research at NAMI; and the Director of Psychology at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. In addition to his books Dr. Amador has published over 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers, and many other publications that have been translated into more than 20 languages. Dr. Amador was co-chair of the last text revision of the Schizophrenia and related disorders section of the DSM IV-TR (often referred to as the Psychiatrists Bible ).

'This book fills a tremendous void...' wrote E. Fuller Torrey, M.D., about the first edition of I AM NOT SICK, I Don't Need Help! Ten years later, it still does. Dr. Amador's research on poor insight was inspired by his attempts to help his brother Henry, who developed schizophrenia, accept treatment. Like tens of millions of others diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, Henry did not believe he was ill. In this latest edition, 6 new chapters have been added, new research on anosognosia (lack of insight) is presented and new advice, relying on lessons learned from thousands of LEAP seminar participants, is given to help readers quickly and effectively use Dr. Amador s method for helping someone accept treatment. I AM NOT SICK, I Don't Need Help! is not just a reference for mental health practitioners or law enforcement professionals. It is a must-read guide for family members whose loved ones are battling mental illness. Read and learn as have hundreds of thousands of others...to LEAP-Listen, Empathize, Agree, and Partner-and help your patients and loved ones accept the treatment they need.

Read it in one sitting! Excellent book for anyone related to or treating someone with schizophrenia. Why they don't recognized the need for medication, and how to effectively and respectfully help them.I'm a therapist for 24 years, and wish I had read this a decade ago!Because I read this book, I was able to grieve what once was, let go of what could have been and accept new possibilities. This was the first book I read after my adult son was diagnosed within the Schizophrenia spectrum... It seemed like the author was writing about my child!!! I would highly recommend this book to any family member who is going through something like this. My son has been one year out of the hospital and I feel like it is in large part because of the knowledge and skills I learned, put into practice and continue to use to this day that he continues to take his medication and remains out of the hospital.Very informative book I found this book to be a very informative one on the subject. I have recently discovered my son has some mental illness but he doesn't think he has a problem. The author through his own experiences relates how to deal with the difficulty of helping the mental ill without alienating them. In my son's case, the rest of the family has problems communicating with my son because of their attempts to make him realize he needs help. He stays away from them. I highly recommend this book for people who are dealing with someone in this situation.
